Affiliate marketing is the easiest way to make money online, you do not need any skills and you do not need to invest a lot of money to get started.
But if you need to make it profitable in a long run, you need to master a few of the skills, here are the top 7 affiliate marketing skills you need to master.
Top 7 Affiliate marketing skills
Here are the top 7 affiliate marketing skills you need to master if you want to be successful in this business.
Copywriting
Copywriting is the process of writing the text for the purpose of advertising or other forms of marketing.
If you want to be successful, you need to master the art of writing good copy, you need to be able to write emails and social media posts, and create videos that you can use to sell.
Learning copywriting is a long process, the good thing is that you can start learning and practicing it and with time you will master it.
Landing page building
Landing pages are pages where your visitors can land before they go to buy the product, actually, these can be squeeze pages ( to collect leads), or sales pages (to they the products) among others.
There are many things to consider when building the landing page, from picking the right landing page builder, how to write headlines, the size of the letters, the colors, the call to action, etc, this skill can take a long time to master, but it is essential.
For me, this is one of the first skills that every affiliate marketer must learn, and if you want to learn about building landing pages, for me the only person to learn from is Russel Brunson, he is the best landing page builder in the world.
Creating Videos
They say a picture represents 1000 words, and the video takes 1000 pictures, videos becoming huge each and every day.
All major social media platforms are pushing for videos, Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube are encouraging video marketing.
You do not need to be a professional video creator, if you have a basic smartphone, you can create videos.
All you need is to point to the back camera of your phone ( usually is better than the frontal camera) and record yourself speaking about any topic of your choice, get the video, and upload it to social media and you are in the business.Â
Your videos do not have to be long, remember your video just need to provide precise information and have a lit bit of fun.
As I said I record my video using my phone and I edit them using Camtasia, If you do not have a Phone you can pick one on Amazon for cheap, and for Camtasia, you can read my review here.
SEO
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, this is not a must-have skill, but it is a necessary one especially if you want to get traffic from search engines, Google, Bing, etc.
For me, SEO is about finding how people are looking for information online, finding those keywords, analyzing the organic competition, and then creating a strategy that will help your content to rank on the first page of search engines.
The reason why I said it is not a must, is that there is a feeling among online marketers that search engines do not like affiliate marketers.
Some people feel it is not worth the time, since Google can change its algorithm at any time without any warning and you will lose all your traffic and income.
Those claims are essentially true, but I still think that it is still worth having organic traffic, as long as you do something right you will still get traffic from Google.
Paid media
If you do not want to wait for your organic SEO traffic to grow or to build your social media, the next option would be to go with paid media.
This is the easiest traffic to get, you just pay someone for their traffic, you provide them a link to your landing pages, and they start sending you traffic.
It sounds simple right? No, it is not, you will need to learn how to buy traffic, also you will need to combine landing pages ( or hire someone to do it for you), and Copywriting skills.
If you are not careful you can lose a lot of money in a very short time, that is why I always recommend learning this skill if you want to take your business to the next level.Â
If you want to learn how to use paid media and make money as an affiliate marketer, there is just one place to learn, from the best Clickbank affiliate marketer in the work, Rob Blanchard, This guy is a genius when it comes to paid media.
Email Marketing
This is the most profitable skill you can have as an online marketer, if you want to make a full-time income, you need to learn email marketing.
The idea here is to find people with a burning desire to solve their problems and create a lead magnet that will give those people a solution in exchange for their emails.
You will need to start sending these people emails, educating them more about the issues they have and how to solve them. Those emails might contain affiliate links and if people buy from any of those links you will make money.
The most important thing to consider in email marketing is that do not to send people emails for the sake of just making money. Remember these are real people with real problems, send them solutions you think will help them out and only promote high-quality products.
You can read how to start email marketing here.
A/B testing
Last but not least, learning A/B testing is very important for your affiliate marketing success, A/B testing consists of testing two different things and comparing the results to determine what is working.
For example, if you have 1000 people in your email list, you can send an email with one subject line to half of them and a slightly different subject line to the other half.
Then you can compare which subject line leads to more actions ( email opening. Click rate, purchases, etc), you can use this information for future emails.
You can do this for every aspect of your marketing, from landing pages, call to action, subject lines, etc. learn, test, and profit.
Conclusion
That is it, those are the Top 7 Affiliate marketing skills, if you can learn those, you will see a positive impact on your business.
Of course, you can outsource all of them, but I still think it is a good idea to have a basic understanding of those skills, this way if you hire someone to do those tasks for you, you will know if they know what are they doing or they are just guessing.
